TypeSafe AI, a frontier AI lab building machine-native, composable AI, today emerged from stealth with $40 million in seed funding led by DCVC. Founded by former OpenAI researcher and co-inventor of RLHF/ChatGPT, Diogo Almeida, with Erik Gafni and Sasha Sheng, TypeSafe is building a new class of intelligence designed to give developers reliable, efficient intelligence they can integrate directly into software systems.
Today’s frontier models have become increasingly capable at reasoning and interacting with people, but the characteristics that make a powerful AI assistant do not always translate to production software. Models can hallucinate, change methodologies between requests, and introduce unnecessary variability into systems that depend on predictable behavior. TypeSafe is taking a different approach, building intelligence that can serve as a composable software primitive for applications requiring semantic judgment and intelligent decision-making.

Jev, a nod to Jevons Paradox, is TypeSafe’s first model built around this approach. The model delivers frontier-level intelligence at less than 100 milliseconds of latency and is up to 100 times faster and less expensive than other frontier models. Currently available in early access for select developers, the model can process hundreds of outputs in parallel from a single prompt and provides calibrated confidence scores, allowing developers to determine when software can act autonomously and when it should defer.
