GTO Technologies Advances Geothermal Commercialization with Purpose-Built Downhole Flow Control Technology

HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — GTO Technologies has reached a significant commercialization milestone with the successful testing of its purpose-built geothermal technology: A three-position downhole sleeve engineered to create the fracture network, then manage fluid flow to reduce thermal decline and improve performance in geothermal production wells.

Early-stage geothermal technologies borrowed techniques like “Plug and Perf” from the unconventional oil and gas industry and adapted them to enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). But this purpose-built sleeve addresses major challenges specific to geothermal development. Chief among these is premature thermal decline rates and low fracture conductivity. This “conformance control” tool can be adjusted to regulate flow to in a manner similar to oilfield waterfloods.

GTO tools have been tested and rated to 10,000 psi and 300 degrees C. GTO not only provides customers with HPHT tools sets, but subject matter expertise specific to EGS operations. “This is part of a bigger paradigm shift in the industry,” says Mays, referring to technology breakthroughs specific to geothermal production. By Q1 of 2027 GTO expects to see the first field application using the technology licensed from the Colorado School of Mines.

At a recent test, Mays was speaking with a representative from an integrated oilfield services provider. They confessed it would have taken their company five times as long, and five times as much capital to commercialize a similar product. It is this sort of project focused agility that makes GTO an ideal partner for independent geothermal operators.
